And I’m back!!!  I know Wishbone went silent for a couple of weeks (Aussie jet lag) #thestruggleisreal.  Now that I’m almost back on East Coast time, I couldn’t wait to share some of the amazing food, experiences and of course fashion with you!

We were lucky enough to hit 2 weeks of amazing Spring weather in Sydney and took full advantage with daily walks over my favorite bridge, beachside dining, and catching up with friends and family.

Already missing the Vegemite toast 🙂

Matcha love

matcha half 2

Over the weekend, I decided to continue a new obsession of mine…matcha.  This super tea was first introduced to me years ago, but I really gained an appreciation for it when we went to Japan.  Matcha straight from the source is like nothing else and the vibrant green color is mesmerizing.

With a weekly trip to Tokyo out, I searched for the best matcha spots locally.  Matcha Bar, in Brooklyn is my top pic. These guys are the real deal, taking trips and sourcing their match directly from Japan. In West Village I found Chalait, complete with some of the best avo toast in the city. The iced matcha latte with almond milk is delish.

With at least 5 more locations still on my list, I will happily continue the matcha hunt 🙂

Clementine Cake

clem all

I find on days when my stress levels are over the top, hitting the kitchen for some baking is totally relaxing.  I’m not one of those people who can throw ingredients together resulting in culinary genius, but I can follow a recipe.  Two of my favorite cooking indulgences to watch are Nigella and the Barefoot Contessa.  Both make cooking relaxing and interesting.

I decided to give Nigella’s Clementine Cake a go after one particularly hectic day.  The intoxicating smell of the clementines boiling their way into little orange balls of sweetness was lovely wafting throughout the house.  When I had the completed product, I was very impressed with myself but more so the absolute yumminess of the cake.  Here’s what I did:

clem pot

Boil 5-6 clementines (can also add oranges but they are not as sweet) for about 45 minutes.  I found somewhere between 45 minutes and an hour broke the clementines down perfectly.  Leave the skins on when boiling.

clem mix

Once the clementines are cooled, cut them up into small pieces, skin an all-removing the seeds and pith. I used my bullet to puree them down but a food processor would work well too.  Puree until there are no large chunks left of clementine skin, just small orange flecks.  I then added this puree to the rest of the ingredients and hand mixed in a large bowl.  Pour into a spring loaded round pan and bake for 1 hour. (Take the cake out at 40 minutes and cover with aluminum foil for the remaining 20 so the top does not burn).

*Note-Ground almonds are just almond meal/flour. Whole foods usually has a great selection.  Because of the almond flour, this is a great cake for gluten free and dairy intolerance friends.

Balaboosta

floral soho sit

Last weekend was my husband’s first birthday in New York.  Celebrating in Sydney has always been amazing, so I was determined to make the weekend one to remember.  I thought it fitting that brunch started off the day at Balaboosta in Soho.  The name itself quite literally means good wife, so I thought it fitting for our morning nibbles. 🙂

The rest of the weekend was comprised of cortados at Intelligentsia, walk along the High Line, watch shopping at Shinola(love the story behind this brand) and an afternoon in Central Park.  The birthday boy was in his element and very happy!
