Scallop

I love it when I stumble upon basics with fantastic detailing.  An unexpected patterned lining of a blazer or even the intricate stitching on a garment can give new life to a wardrobe staple.  Black shorts are a must and are definitely already in my closet, but the scalloped hem line on these made them instantly appealing, giving a fresh take on the standard black short.  They were a bit of a throwback to Japan with a nod to the girly, playful side of fashion.  Paired with a super bright belt, I already know these will become a Summer staple.

Denim Pencil

dpencil full BB

I’m not usually a skirt person.  I will always opt for a pair of shorts or even better, a pair of fantastic jeans (we all know my denim obsession).  I decided, after adding a zippered, leather pencil skirt to my collection over the Winter-that I’m obsessed with-why not find a warm weather version.  Upon inspection of my closet, I realized my skirt gap was an epidemic. I could only find 3 and 2 of them, I still would actually wear.  With this in mind, I knew I wanted something that was a basic with staying power.  Enter the denim pencil.  The color spectrum was endless, but ultimately I chose a medium wash that hit right above the knee.

There’s something classic yet sexy about a pencil skirt and the denim version, so far, has proved to be a piece I will have in my closet for years.

Sheer genius

golden half B

This past weekend was the first time I actually started to believe Spring would make it’s entrance into NYC….eventually.  Every tulip was is full bloom and the white blossoms in Central Park that had suddenly appeared while we were in Japan, were reminiscent of the cherry blossoms we had become accustomed to.

I took full advantage and spent the weekend, like every other New Yorker, outside for every possible second. I had been waiting for the weather to cooperate with my gladiator itch and new goodie from The Dreslyn – sheer perfection from Equipment.  The light and airy silk was perfection with really… anything, but I thought my golden sandals and perfectly worn in boyfriend shorts were the right mix.

Japanese Snow

photo-360

With all the cities and places we visited in Japan, this quaint street in Kyoto was hands down the most magical.  We stumbled upon it by accident funnily enough.  As per usual, I was starving and we were on the hunt for a fabulous yet authentic lunch, and so far, everything seemed to be closed.  As I was about to unleash my inner hunger monster, we turned a corner and bumped into the cutest little lady from Eastern Europe on a 25 day tour of Japan.  She simply said to us, “the most beautiful street in Japan is just there (p0inting).  You must have a walk down it”.  At this point I could only hope it was not only beautiful, but full of open restaurants.

It was even better than expected.  Three breeds of cherry blossoms were in full bloom.  As a soft breeze blew, the buds would fill the air like powdery snow.  I was mesmerized.  At the end of the street was a small door with a sign out front.  I was really ready to eat anything at this point, so we wandered in through the tiny door, up the stairs and removed our shoes-as instructed.  Two hours later, we were blissfully happy after our traditional tatami-style lunch, complete with a front row view of the blossoms drifting through the air.

Young at heart

b romp half half

As I was walking the streets of Shibuya (fabulous shopping and home of the famous crossing) in Tokyo, I was fascinated by the melting pot of trends.  The “wear what makes you happy” really came to life in the streets…it was fantastic!  Throughout almost every ensemble and definitely in every shop was the girly girl vibe.  Some translations were quite literal with ruffles, bows and pastels as the color palette.  Other were a bit more subtle with just small feminine touches.

My romper from Bohemian Bones was perfect for a day of shopping and feeling like a local.  The flirty sleeve combined with a romper gave me the girly feel I was after, juxtaposed against the geo print and plunging neckline.  Bohemian Bones definitely has some Japanese fans now considering how many of the girls quite literally stopped me on the street to covet my romper!

Spring Tux

tux BEST INSTA

Halfway into our whirlwind excursion through Japan, we took a day to relax and enjoy the amazing weather (a fantastic change from the harsh cold in NYC). I took full advantage and of course opted for my white, tux jumpsuit-nothing says Spring has arrived like a crisp white ensemble.  When I spotted this little number, I could hardly wait to rip into The Dreslyn box that promptly arrived a week prior to our trip. I love the chic twist the tux detailing gives this jumpsuit.  Definitely ready to hit a rooftop bar in New York in my all white when we return!
