High rise

August is my other half’s birthday month which always has me pondering forever about perfect gift (I pride myself on giving the best gifts).  I was out for my usual bit of retail therapy, when I spotted a miracle.  My sweetie is very picky and has been after a briefcase for literally a year-one of which only exists in his head…of course. It was as if he had custom designed this piece of buttery leather loveliness.  I left, present in hand and with a bit of a crush myself.  I couldn’t resist the smart paring with my high rise jeans for my morning meeting.

Cajun shrimp

This weekend was unusually warmer for an Aussie winter, which of course prompted me to get out and about in the brightest colors possible.  This shirt dress is so easy and carefree and works well with almost any accessories.  It’s a beautiful blank canvas with endless possibilities.  It transitioned perfectly into my evening date at the new Jamie Oliver gem … Jamie’s Italian.

(I recommend the black angel spaghetti)

My trips to Melbourne are always full of new discoveries and anticipated visits to favorite haunts.  It’s such an amazing city with so many dimensions.  It is literally impossible to fit everything into one weekend in this lovely city, but as you can see, I tried.

What are some of your favorite spots in Melbourne?

Chocolatiering

Anyone who knows me understands my slight obsession with chocolate, especially the dark variety.  Even though it was only 10am, I headed straight to Melbourne’s chocolate institution, Koko Black.  This beautiful little coco shop is hands down my favorite in Australia.  A fabulous, sweet smell hits you the minute you enter and you can’t help but feel at ease surrounded by layers and layers of decadent chocolate creations.  Even though my husband is not a “sweets” person, I talked him into sharing a hot chocolate.  It was the perfect sugar high for my day of shopping and exploring.

(I recommend the dark chocolate cherry truffle-it’s my favorite!)

Koko Black is situated in the Royal Arcade which draws you in with it’s beautiful mosaic floors and stunning design.  I couldn’t help but stop and admire the amazing floor on our way to tea.

Loose change

Melbourne is one of my favorite cities in the world.  The food, people and of course the fashion are so inspiring.  I literally could spend an entire week getting lost in the colorful, cobblestone alleyways.  The art alone is like exploring a giant museum with some of the most fascinating graffitied lane-ways and random sculptures.

I love the “giant coin purse” that is casually situated outside the shops on Bourke Street.  It’s rare not to see tourist waiting their turn for a fun photo.  I was lucky enough to have it all to myself one morning before my latte.

Orange pop

Last weekend was the first weekend in awhile that was blissfully unplanned.  After my morning latte, I decided to venture over to one of my favorite places for some amazing fashion finds and inspiration….Chinatown.  I love seeing the effortlessly fabulous outfits bustling around the streets followed by a wander into the boutiques that are always treasure troves of the most amazing accessories.  I never seem to leave Chinatown empty handed.

On this particular visit, I was after some ridiculously cute flats.  As usual, I was not disappointed.  When I saw the metal studs and matching bow capped off by turquoise, I knew they would be mine.  A pop of orange caught my eye in the same store, which I quickly snapped up to satisfy my neon obsession.  I left with pendant and shoes in hand and a smile on my face.

I’m off to Melbourne this weekend….pictures to follow!

Cherry peplum

I was in New York with my Mom when I first saw this little peplum piece.  I loved the unfinished edges and the almost rugged take on a normally prim and proper design.  The nude version was the one I just couldn’t decided on based on the fact that the color just missed the mark for me.  Sadly, I left it behind.  I was overjoyed during one of my visits to Zara in Sydney to spot the dress in an amazing cherry hue.  Definitely worth the wait!
